Earlier this week, the gals and I were hanging around the water cooler, snacking on health food and crafting killer ideas for the next Lunch Break Makeover (clearly work related) when Heather had a truly inspired epiphany.
~Sharpie nails~
Our first attempt at marker nail art took place at an overnight work conference last month. Sure, it was work, but it didn’t mean we had to be business 24/7. So Heather took it upon herself to pack a rainbow of Sharpie markers, some adult beverages, and enough gummy snacks to choke an elephant, for a hotel room “girl’s night” extravaganza. The goal was to try a marbleized nail art tutorial she had found on Pinterest which, of course, looked dummy proof so why not?
She entrusted me with a marker, a handful of SmartPop, and full creative license to do whatever the hell I wanted. I tried. Failed. And then I tried some more…making it it even worse. Then I ate more popcorn and tried again. It was still pretty awful. Luckily, she’s my best friend and loves me no matter how badly I maim her. To make matters worse, I couldn’t even blame the whiskey because she did the majority of the drinking. And so we discovered that nails really aren’t my forte and I should stick to faces and foods. Done.
Later that evening (or the next morning, it’s impossible to keep track of time in a hotel-11am and 11pm look identical) she fixed the paint job with a little more Sharpie, a giant coffee, and some well deserved ibuprofen. All I can say is MIND-BLOWN. MacGyver would have been so proud. I mean, who knew you could do THAT with office supplies? Heaven knows I clearly couldn’t.
Let’s all take a moment to give Heather props for serious skills with a sharpie marker and a belly full of expensive booze.
Needless to say, it worked out to be a good time and her nail job didn’t end up a Pinterest fail for the remainder of the conference.
SO you can see why when Heather suggested it again, I said eff it! Let’s just go nuts again, but on Jez’s nails for this week’s #LBM!!!
Oh yeah, and five minutes into lunch, Emily dumped her cabbage salad all over herself and the floor. I’m really bummed we didn’t get pictures of that too, since it was really a beautiful…even if it was spread out all over the carpet.
Get your Sharpies and your drink of choice (non-alcoholic beverages for work, please) because today we are crushing NAIL ART!
The Tools:
1. A rainbow assortment of Sharpie Markers. We used between 2-4 colors for each nail.
2. Rubbing Alcohol
3. A tiny paint brush for swirling
Each of us picked a nail and a few colors. Heather took two nails because of her amazing skill level.
After doodling on the nail, get the alcohol and the paint brush. Dab a bit of the alcohol on the nail and lightly swirl.
Let them dry, then apply a top coat to seal it in.
Ta Da! Marble Nail Art in less than five minutes. Who knew you could have this much fun with office supplies?!?!
I’d love to see what you ladies do with your lunches. Share your Lunch Break Makeovers with me on Instagram! Whether you are at work or at home…or in your car doing lipstick and taking selfies! It’s ok, we all do it. Just tag @inspectorgorgeous and (hashtag) #LBM and I’ll spread the pretties on my feed!
I can’t wait to see what you beauty mavens do midday!
