It’s been a while since I’ve had a spare moment to share some big ol’ life news with all 25 of you followers, but I think it’s time we had a chat.
I’M FINALLY MOVING!
Yes, the time has come. I have finally taken the leap to not only move out of my tiny small town apartment, but to move out of my beloved home state and into the great unknown, otherwise known as North Carolina. Exciting, right? But wait, there’s more!
I’m leaving my (also beloved) job and (most beloved of all) girl gang to become a full time blog lady/food eater photographer. And pals, it’s been a long time coming.
The Short of a Long Story
I have been blogging and photo-ing foods for the last three years and I can’t even tell you how many times I’ve thought about quitting it all and spending my extra pennies on purses instead of peppers. And onions and eggs and one metric ton of almond flour. But I couldn’t just quit it. It was kind of me and it had gotten me through some pretty tough times. Mostly times getting dumped because my love life is the food equivalent of a french macaroon-A nice thought but impossible to execute properly. So I stuck with it and here we are. Takin’ what they giving cause I’m blogging for a living. *That’s a Huey Lewis and The News song*
There’s a lot of story in between and some serious advice I can (and will) share in later blog posts but first I wanted to hear what interests all of you. You may just be here for the keto recipes or the pretty pictures. Those won’t stop, ever. If you are lurking for some food photography help or how to start monetizing your blog/finding freelance gigs, let me know. I would love to share how I went from a hobbiest to doin’ it for real.
Food Photography
I had the pleasure of shooting the product shots for Lolli’s Low Carb Granola for my beautiful friend and low carb food creator Sherry. She started out with a low carb/keto facebook group and was one of the first big blog supporters I had. I owe a lot of blog traffic to her and her shares in her facebook group so I was more than excited to shoot her granola. Also, I got to eat it. Another perk of food photography.
I love supporting others who are taking what they love (baking some dang addictive granola) and turning it into their business. So inspiring, and a great woman to boot.
To do this granola justice, I wanted to enhance the color of the granola and really bring out the texture. This granola is like sweet, nutty cookie crumbles and I wanted that to be obvious and inspire some drool. Drool is the main goal for food photos. I took advantage of some late afternoon light that was slightly warm and shady and paired it with some fun wooden salad spoons my sister have given me for Christmas. Then I layered a few different boards and white cloth napkin to give some depth and again t e x t u r e. Also big in food photography.
I took the same approach while shooting the second flavor *YES, there are TWO flavors* but more muted colors because it felt more peanut buttery and chocolate chippy.
I love how these photos turned out, too. Lighter and softer than the Original mainly because Peanut Butter Macadamia makes think soft and creamy. BUT both are delicious and both were a treat to photograph because Sherry (owner, founder, friend to everyone) bakes each batch fresh and ships them out like some sort of magical Keebler Elf…but granola. It’s amazing. I hope I never have to choose between the two. *wink wink Sherry*
Find Sherry and her granola (should be great-nola) on Facebook, Instagram, and her Website!
Now back to packing my entire life into giant cardboard boxes. I should probably get more wine…
